[Tweet “Half is better than none when there are things to be done.”]
Being a Procrastinator often means being stuck in the middle of things. You’ve started something, and before you know it, you’re on to something else. You’ve decided you are going to work on a project, and then the wind gets taken out of your sails. Over time, frequent Procrastination and problems completing projects lead Procrastinators to a bigger problem, namely, the problem of not starting things at all.
If you are currently in the category of “not starting things at all,” here’s a solution. Figure out a way to do half. Envision half as being “enough.” You can apply this trick to many different types of activities, like:
- reading your lengthy assignment for school or work
- getting a load of laundry folded
- straightening up a room
- planning a renovation project
- getting old clothing and no-longer-used books ready for donation
- exploring a new business venture
If you have been critical of yourself for not finishing things in the past, this technique may be particularly useful. Instead of harping on yourself, focus instead on the actions you are taking and the progress you are making. You are not lazy. You have just read half of an assignment you never thought you’d get to. All you have left is the “shorter” half, because you have already got the gist of the reading.
All the way through, remind yourself half is definitely better than none when there are things to be done. This positively-tinged thinking will soon get you going places you never thought you’d get to. Enjoy your trip.
What project do you have in mind for half-way-done today?
How serendipitous that this post should pop up on my tweet deck while I’m procrastinating getting started on novel writing this afternoon. I think it’s was God’s way of telling me to get to work. I’ve been flooded with ideas, and I love this project so much that it’s just a bit overwhelming!
So glad the post helped! And so glad your creative energy is flowing so well. Good luck!
